Real answers to industry misconceptions.
Mobile connectivity is changing by the day. When you partner with us, we bring the transparent guidance and seasoned insight today’s complex connectivity decisions demand.
We can just rely on a single Wireless Carrier.
Bust the Myth
| Airports and rail stations need reliable, always-on connectivity for ticketing systems, operational communications, IoT sensors and passenger services. Relying on a single carrier creates dead zones, reduces redundancy and increases risk for critical communications—especially in signal-challenging areas like concourses, maintenance yards, stairwells and underground platforms. Neutral-host solutions ensure coverage from all three major Wireless Carriers. |
Connectivity is only about passenger Wi-Fi.
Bust the Myth
Modern transportation networks rely on mobile POS, digital signage, IoT sensors, baggage tracking, automated gates and operational monitoring—none of which work without robust, enterprise-grade mobile connectivity.
Delaying upgrades won’t impact network performance or business operations.
Bust the Myth
Outdated networks increase downtime, frustrate passengers and create safety risks. Early planning reduces blind spots, avoids costly retrofits, and supports future technologies like IoT and predictive analytics. Today’s next-generation networks including 5G cannot be monitored through outdated systems.

How to think about connectivity.
IT, Digital Transformation and Security Teams
Think in terms of resilience, performance and protection.
Connectivity is the backbone of modern transportation operations. Reliable cellular, Wi-Fi and Private Networks support ticketing systems, passenger information platforms, mobile devices, IoT sensors and critical operational systems. Fragmented or outdated connectivity increases cyber and operational risk, disrupts services and drives up support costs. A consolidated, neutral-host network simplifies management, improves reliability and scales to support modernization—without adding workload for your team.
Real Estate Leaders
Think in terms of asset value, flexibility and future-proofing.
Airports and train stations are more than buildings—they’re high-value operational assets. Connectivity planning impacts long-term performance, operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction. Early integration ensures LEED materials, terminal expansions and high-traffic areas don’t block cell signals, while supporting IoT systems, smart energy management and operational dashboards. Future-ready networks reduce lifecycle costs, simplify renovations and enable your facilities to adapt as passenger volumes and technology needs grow..
Finance Leaders
Think in terms of ROI, cost control and Ooperational efficiency.
Connectivity is no longer just a utility—it directly impacts revenue, labor efficiency, energy use and capital planning. Modern, scalable networks reduce downtime, prevent costly retrofits and enable predictable operating expense models. Investments in high-performance mobile infrastructure improves throughput, reduces operational inefficiencies and supports long-term growth, giving finance teams confidence in ROI and lifecycle performance.
Procurement Leaders
Think in terms of simplification, vendor management and value.
Deploying connectivity across airports and rail hubs involves multiple vendors, Wireless Carriers and contractors. A consolidated, as-a-service network reduces procurement complexity, streamlines vendor coordination and delivers enterprise-grade performance at predictable costs. Flexible funding and deployment options allow procurement teams to meet operational goals without overextending budgets.
Operations Leaders
Think in terms of uptime, flow and passenger experience.
Every movement in a terminal or rail hub relies on always-on connectivity. Ticketing, digital signage, baggage handling, fleet coordination and passenger flow systems fail without consistent coverage—leading to delays, congestion and frustration. Strong networks improve operational visibility, minimize disruptions, and keep passengers, fleet and staff moving efficiently, even during peak periods.
Brand & Customer Experience Leaders
Think in Terms of Loyalty, Reputation & Engagement.
Connectivity directly shapes the passenger journey—from mobile check-in and ticketing to digital wayfinding, loyalty apps, streaming and in-terminal amenities. Poor connectivity increases complaints, slows digital transactions and weakens trust. Reliable, property-wide coverage supports personalization, boosts engagement and enhances passenger perception—transforming every terminal, station and platform visit from a hassle to an experience.
Answers to some common questions from clients like you:
How do you work with the Wireless Carriers?
Wireless Carriers are essential to every mobility solution, and our model makes collaboration faster, easier and more predictable. While carrier-funded systems are less common today, our venue-funded approach removes uncertainty for enterprises while still creating value for Wireless Carriers.
- Secure guaranteed signal from AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile
- Align on design, power and optimization to meet Wireless Carrier standards
- Coordinate approvals for a seamless on-air transition
- Invite Wireless Carriers to contribute funding where applicable
- Continuously upgrade for next-gen technologies like 5G, C-Band and CBRS
Even when Wireless Carriers don’t fully fund the system, our structure makes participation attractive by reducing their capital burden and delivering network-aligned infrastructure that benefits your facility, workers and Wireless Carriers. By planning upfront and leveraging our Wireless Carrier relationships to secure your seat at the table, these deployments achieve greater success.
Do you work with a preferred Wireless Carrier?
All of them. TDC provides “neutral host” solutions. Neutral host means a single shared infrastructure that supports Multiple Wireless Carriers (AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile) at once. Instead of each Wireless Carrier installing its own system, a neutral-host DAS provides one platform that everyone can connect to—reducing cost, improving coverage and delivering a better experience for all users in the facility.
Can your solutions support IoT?
Yes. Our connectivity solutions are designed to support high-density environments and IoT deployments, including sensors, M2M connections and assembly-line sensors. Learn more here.
Does my facility need 5G?
Today’s 5G comes in two forms: Standalone 5G (using high-frequency spectrum like C-Band and 2.5 GHz) and 5G New Radio (“5G-NR”), which runs on existing 4G LTE infrastructure. Standalone 5G requires carriers to deploy new, high-capacity spectrum, while 5G-NR leverages existing networks for broader coverage. Understanding these differences helps determine which use cases truly benefit from 5G.
| 4G LTE / 5G-NR | 5G C-Band / 2.5GHz | |
| Use Cases | Streaming; Web Browsing; Video Calls; Social Media | Multi-device, simultaneous ultra-HD streaming; AR/VR; Gaming; Smart Cities and IoT in large usage; Remote Surgery |
| Property Type | Standard office environments | High-density, high-capacity properties like stadiums, airports or large manufacturing facilities |
| Cost | More efficient | High cost |
| Speed | Up to ~100Mbps | ~300Mbps+ (Proven); 1-10Gbps (Theoretical) |
| Latency | ~30-50ms | ~1-10ms |
| Network Availability | Nearly everywhere | Still rolling out |
| Devices | Works on most existing phones | Requires 5G-compatible device |
